Disulfiram is used in many countries around the world as a remedy for alcoholism. Even a small amount of alcohol after receiving the medication causes a very unpleasant reaction of the body within minutes, thus creating an aversion to alcohol.
However, in most cases, disulfiram is only available in a pill form, and in the absence of continuous monitoring, the patient may simply stop taking the pills and start drinking again.
To combat this problem, an implant is used, which helps to develop the habit of not drinking and prevents alcohol consumption long enough for a person to get used to a life without alcohol.
